The rivalry renewed for 2009 with the Giants and Cubs. These two (2) teams a primed to battle it out for the 2009.. The Home team Giants in there third game in five days would take the field first. Sending pitching ace, Billy Rapp to the mound to start the game. Billy would strike out the first hitter, the second hitter would pop up a bunt attempt which third basemen Wil Mayes would catch, then the third batter would also strike out, three up, three down. The Giants would send five (5) batters to the plate, Sam Hamilton would card a single up the middle off the pitcher, and would make his way to third, Andrew Bishop would bat second and stroke a hard line drive to the Short Stop who quickly threw to third to Catch Sam off the bag for a double play. Wilson Mayes would take a pitch over the fence in right-center to the football field for his first home run of the season and 1 run off the game. Logan Tinnel would card a walk and work his way around the bases and steal home while Tate Mayes was at bat, Tate would wrap up the inning by sending a fly ball to right field for out number 3.
After one (1) complete inning Giant 2 - Cubs 0.
Billy Rapp would face three (3) more Cubs and none would leave the plate... The first batter would strike out, the second batter would foul a ball up where catch Sam Hamilton would make the catch, and the third batter would also go down on strikes. The Giants would send eight (8) batters up starting with Taylor Mullins reaching base on an error by the pitcher, Travis Miller would get his first hit of the year, driving Mullins home for an RBI, Billy Rapp would hit a fly ball to right field for out #1, Marshall Newlon would hit a drive down the 1st base line, Unfortunately for Marshall the ball hit the first base and stopped and the 1st basemen picked the ball up for out #2. Sam Hamilton would reach base on an Error by the Cubs 1st baseman, Andrew Bishop would card a walk. Slugger Wil Mayes would then drive a ball into centerfield for a double and his 2nd hit of the game, scoring Hamilton and Bishop. Logan Tinnel would be the final out as his hit was caught by the 2nd baseman.
After two (2) complete innings Giants 7 - Cubs 0
Billy Rapp would take the mound, the first two cubs would go down on strikes, the next two cub hitters would card walks, and the fifth hitter would follow suite like the first two and go down on strikes. The Giants would send four (4) players to the plate and Tate Mayes would go down swinging, for the 1st out, Taylor Mullins would card a base hit to start it off, Dustin LaVancher would hit a ball down the first base line for the 2nd out of the inning. Billy Rapp would go down swinging for the final out, but before he would go down, Taylor Mullins was able to steal home for the lone run in the inning.
After three (3) complete innings Giant 8 - Cubs 0
Tate Mayes takes control of the hill for the top of the 4th inning and would face three (3) Cub hitters, he would sit the first batter down on strikes, the 2nd hitter would hit a grounder to third where brother Wil would sling it to first for the 2nd out. The third out would go down swinging. The Giants would send six (6) players to the plate, Dakota Benton would pop up to the Short Stop for out #1, Sam Hamilton would also pop up for out #2, Andrew Bishop would card a base hit, Wil Mayes would draw a walk, and Logan Tinnel would dribble in a base bit to load the bases. Tate Mayes would go down looking for the 3rd out.
After four (4) complete innings Giant 8 - Cubs 0
The top of fifth, would see Tate Mayes begin the inning and take the count full to the first batter when Marshall Newlon would take the hill. One strike later, one (1) out. The only Cub to card a hit during this game would be the next hitter as Matt Moore hit a ball up the middle, the next four (4) batters Marshall Newlon would walk two (2) and Strike out (2) to end the inning. The Giants come to bat and would send six (6) batters to face the third new pitcher for the Cubs. Taylor Mullins would lead off with a walk, Travis Miller would hit a ball back at the pitcher for the 1st out. Billy Rapp would drive a ball up the middle to card his first hit and RBI of the game as Mullins would score. Billy Rapp would later score on consecutive steals and error at third base. Sam Hamilton would card a walk, then Andrew Bishop for his second hit of the game would send a ball deep in left-center for an RBI Triple to end the game.
